CADAS: information backbone along the digital data chain

CADAS Suite

The Frequentis CADAS suite provides a modular system for comprehensive aeronautical information management (AIM), aligned with ICAO standards and regulations, facilitating a cost-effective migration from AIS to AIM. It supports long-term and short-term information management, publications, and workflow management, enhancing data integrity and consistency.

Through System-Wide Information Management (SWIM), it enables seamless data exchange for improved decision-making and operational efficiency. Our vision of Actionable Information Management ensures robust, safety-critical data delivery for use by other IT systems in decision-making processes.

Use cases

The CADAS suite from Frequentis supports a wide range of AIM use cases, ensuring a comprehensive and integrated approach to aeronautical information management. Here are the key capabilities and use cases covered by CADAS:

Digital NOTAM

Provides standardised, machine-readable formats for Notices to Airmen (NOTAMs), allowing for automated processing and integration into various systems. This improves the accuracy, timeliness, and accessibility of critical flight information, enhancing safety and efficiency for airspace users.

NOTAM Management

Manages the full chain from proposal to processing of all types of NOTAMs (e.g. NOTAM, SNOWTAM, ASHAM) based on international standards such as ICAO Annex 15, ICAO Doc 8126, and OPADD. This ensures that timely and relevant information is available to all airspace users.

Electronic AIP and Charting

Supports the creation and maintenance of Aeronautical Information Publications (AIPs) and charts. The system is data-centric and aligned with the ICAO Roadmap and ADQ Implementing Rules, ensuring accurate and up-to-date publications.

Flight Plan Management

Facilitates efficient workflows with shared situational awareness for operators and pilots, supporting safe flight operations. This includes both terminal and web-based solutions, providing an easy-to-use pilot portal with self-briefing capabilities and an IFPS module.

Briefing

Enhances traditional briefing methods by interpreting digital data and presenting it graphically. This improves situational awareness for pilots and airspace users, making crucial information more accessible and easier to understand.

Central Data Management

Ensures data consistency and quality by merging and consolidating data from various sources according to national and international standards, such as the European ADQ regulation. It manages ICAO data sets, Aerodrome Mapping (AMDB), and terrain and obstacle databases in formats such as AIXM 5.1, AIXM 4.5, and ARINC 424 (Frequentis.com).

By sharing consistent data across all applications, CADAS enhances the integrity and consistency of aeronautical information while reducing service provision efforts. This system supports standardised data encoding and presentation, ensuring that aeronautical information is accessible to ATM network users both on the ground and in the air.

Components

Frequentis' CADAS suite consists of a range of interconnected components to deliver the desired functionality.

CADAS-AIMDB

The heart of the CADAS suite is the AIMDB, where both static and dynamic data are stored. It serves as an AIXM 5.1 data repository.

CADAS-ATS

This interface caters to pilots, airlines, and aeronautical offices, offering comprehensive Air Traffic Services (ATS) such as messaging, flight planning, NOTAM, and meteorological services.

There are two interfaces: a full-scale terminal application and a web-based pilot portal:

  • The portal allows visual route planning, flight plan proposal filing, and home briefing via the internet.
  • The terminal provides complete functionality.

CADAS-ADP

The Aeronautical Digital Portal (CADAS-ADP) is a web-based interface within the CADAS suite designed to manage Digital NOTAMs. It provides users with a streamlined, user-friendly platform to handle the creation, submission, and distribution of NOTAMs in standardised, machine-readable formats.

CADAS-AIP

The Aeronautical Information Publisher (CADAS-AIP) is used for creating and editing publications such as AIPs, eAIPs, and custom publications such as VFR manuals. It automatically incorporates the latest aeronautical information from the AIMDB into all publications.

CADAS-Charting

CADAS-Charting is a robust GIS-based tool for producing and maintaining various aeronautical charts. It leverages AIXM to create data-driven charts, automatically updating them with information from the AIMDB. It supports the creation of:

  • ICAO-defined charts
  • Custom charts

CADAS-WFM

A workflow management tool that streamlines and manages various processes within the CADAS suite.
